Volunteers contribute more than 5,000 hours of service to MEEC's mission each
year. Much of this work occurs in the Nature Preserve, where volunteers
help harvest seeds, maintain trails, burn the prairie, transplant seedlings,
control invasive species and gather ecological data.
Volunteers also become more familiar with the native flora and fauna of our
region, learn valuable skills and techniques to apply to their own property.
Regular volunteers are considered complimentary Friends of MEEC. Group volunteer
experiences can be scheduled, and students with service requirements are
welcome. Contact us for more info.
Volunteers gather on the first Saturday monthly from February through November
(except holiday weekends) from 1-4 pm. Each season brings a succession of new
plant life and animal behavior, as well as changing land management needs. No
special skills or knowledge required; we provide all necessary tools. Just
remember to dress for the weather.
Download a
volunteer brochure for
more information. Special workshops on land stewardship topics are
occasionally offered during the morning of volunteer work days. Visit our
program calendar for more information.
We also offer volunteer experiences
for youth groups. For more information, click
