The MSJ Green Team - CFLs

CFLs are available to fit almost any fixture,
including outside lights and dimmers.

The Mount St. John Green Team works with the MSJ community to save energy and money by making the switch to compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) on campus and at home.

Did you know?
Compact fluorescents use less than half the energy of incandescent bulbs and last far longer. Replacing a 60-watt incandescent bulb with a 15-watt CFL will save $40 over four years.

CFLs contain small amounts of mercury and must be recycled. You can recycle your used CFLs right here at MSJ!  Bring them to the powerhouse between 8 am - 4 pm, or ask your MSJ Green Team representative where they are collected in your building.

Past Events
On August 30, the Green Team hosted the Campus Festival of Lights at the Bergamo Center for Lifelong Learning. The event was an opportunity for those who work, live, volunteer or worship on at Mount St. John to learn about the economic and environmental benefits of compact fluorescent lights (CFLs). Participants toured the Hallway of Lights to compare CFLs and traditional incandescent bulbs, learned how much money can be saved by making the switch to CFLs on an energy calculator, tested their knowledge of lighting with a computerized quiz and saw modeled a variety of different CFLs currently on the market. Everyone who attended received a free CFL, a buying guide and cookies!
